Tiptoeing around the edges of Resistance.

Deciding to relax of an evening, I tuned to the History Channel. A favorite subject, Star Wars, is being covered. Seeing in it an allegory for our times, I hear all these references to Greek and Roman mythology and even comparisons to Roman, Napoleonic, and even Nazi attempts at Empire. They even threw in Saddam Hussein as if he had actually attempted an Empire of his own. Only in the last fifteen minutes and then only lightly and fleetingly, did they dare make mention that "Star Wars" might have a possible aspiration to apply to modern times. To our own government's attempt at Empire.

The "Iliad" was not written to critique ancient history. Homer was critiquing his contemporaries. "1984" did not reference a future, it was published in 1948 and the title played on same concept that "war is peace" served in the body of the story. Only fools and illiterates were not aware that Huxley was critiquing his contemporaries. The first critiques of Nero burning Rome were written while Rome was burning. Nor did play writers wait till Germany surrendered before critiquing that attempt at Empire. Likewise, Lucas saw the truth of Nixon and his ilk, who continue now in the guise of neo-liberal neo-cons, and with his art brought forth an epic that loudly condemned the direction he saw our country was heading towards.

Sadly, the audience did as Americans have become prone to doing. Cheer the movie action, then rush out and buy a bunch of things. As a rule we have not been taught self examination. We've been taught to buy things. The History Channel had a chance to help us examine the current failing of our government in its quest for Empire and punted. Personally, I believe they did it on purpose. The History Channel serves to buttress the current attempt at Empire and thus fails to serve the public interest. Of course, being a business venture, they are in it for the money and there is more money to be made backing our current corrupted government than in questioning the status quo.

Fortunately, it did end on an encouraging note. Even an Empire of seemingly universal strength can be overcome by the actions of a few, dedicated people convincing the people in general that true power, as has actually always been, is in the hands of the people themselves. The power of the story itself overcame the efforts to minimize its current relevance.

When conflicts arise, fire the truth teller.

General John Batiste speaks out against the war in a commercial from votevets.org and is fired by CBS. CBS is owned by General Electric. So, I reckon it is a conflict of interests due to their being such a large supplier of military equipment. Can't have the help belittling such a profitable situation. Title link is Olbermann's interview with Gen. Batiste. $hrub listens to his Generals only when they tell him what he wants to hear.

One of the bench marks in the Dem's war funding bill mentioned by the corporate media is sharing the oil profits nation wide with all Iraqis. Not mentioned is the bench mark giving 75 to 80% of the profits to the Oil Giants. The demos aren't really talking about ending the occupation, just the American death squads masquerading as security enforcers. Not a word about death squads comprised of private contractors such as Blackwater.

Even Putin thinks the Resident's actions resemble those of the Third Reich.

A Wakeup Call

Manuel Valenzuela posts a powerful essay that is in essence a call to action. The above link is to his blog. I read his post off of ICH, a great source for news and opinions, but Manuel proves to be good for some independent truth.

Like I, he has noticed how the corporate media leaves more questions than answers. No longer a source of information, they've become the propaganda branch of government. Television and the public school system are major tools towards creating compliant consumers.

Congress consists of a two headed Hydra with both heads up the corporate ass. Both parties are in collusion as far as war is concerned and too much money is being made for it ever to end, if they have their way.

The official 9-11 conspiracy theory doesn't hold up to the rational questioning it deserves and neither the corporate media or the corporate congress will do the right thing unless we force them to do so.

A decent corroboration comes from Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) via Media Matters. Both articles end on a positive note. The Internet provides an alternate route for truth to spread and we can use it to try to awaken the public. If the public continues to sleep, there will soon be no America to wake up to.

More eloquently than any other author I'm aware of,, he lays out the nuts and bolts of the on going crime the Resident and his cabal are engaged in. And still, as yet only three members of congress have signed up to Impeach. Our Grand Children will not be impressed.

Beneath the Radar of the MSM

Paul Hawken ends with a simple statement:

Healing the wounds of the Earth and its people does not require saintliness or a political party. It is not a liberal or conservative activity. It is a sacred act.

He began with a dawning realization:

I have given nearly one thousand talks about the environment in the past fifteen years, and after every speech a smaller crowd gathered to talk, ask questions, and exchange business cards. The people offering their cards were working on the most salient issues of our day: climate change, poverty, deforestation, peace, water, hunger, conservation, human rights, and more.

The bulk of his text contained his growing realization that people in general are pissed and not willing to take it anymore. It is under the radar because it is sometimes comprised of just one person drawing her own line in the sand. Under the radar because the MSM is too busy chasing the latest gossip to notice a million separate actions whose only commonality is dissatisfaction with the status quo. After all, the business of the MSM is maintaining the status quo. Come on now, you didn't think they were here to inform us, did you?

Texas scores another first

Seems Texas has acquired another first. We lead the nation in the most convicts exonerated by testing of DNA evidence. We got rid of one idiot (sorry, nation) and elected an other to replace him. I used to believe Texans were independent and willful. I'm seeing in them the same sheeple quality that infects the majority of the citizens in the US. There is no outrage in the public at large.

The scandal of perversion and pedophilia in the Texas Youth Commission (those in charge of minors with problems) gets buried by the Federal Attorney (a buddy of Bu$h) and there is no outrage by the public at large.

TXU scales down its desire of 11 new coal fired power plants to three but, wants to build at least three Nuclear plants instead and...The public at large shows no outrage.

I miss the Texas I grew up in. I've known for a long time that the USA as proclaimed in our schools was a farce but, the people I grew up around had pride in their independence of thought. Political arguments were common and varied. Now, nobody seems to want to express strong opinions about anything that doesn't adhere to the Republican Party line.

Long time no posts

Too busy playing with videos over at U-Tube to do much writing. Politics was getting me down. Seems them Dimocrats weren't going to do much of anything other than blow their horns about how different they were. A little bit of noise about ethics reform. The Supreme Court thinks legislators are more qualified than Doctors about how to treat women. Impeachment off the table and lastly continue the Iraq war at least one more year with no restriction on bombing Iran. Lately, things seem to be warming up. Rep. Waxman is getting ready to issue subpoenas. Everybody's mad at A.G. Gonzales. Congress is beginning to look like an actual branch of Government.

Global warming is getting a whole lot of talk but, I don't really expect any real action. Too many people still grubbing for the next dollar to buy the latest new toy. Even good and good hearted people are too burdened by their daily lives to do much more than pop open a beer, turn on the boob tube, and turn up the A/C at the end of their workday to even realize how their life style contributes to the problem. Took me eight years to convince one friend and he only came around when he heard $hrub admit it was real.

Believe it or not but I found me this place back in '86. I hear a lot of talk about what people are going to need when the economic crunch comes. Stockpiling food, gold, and all kind of things. Me, I found a place with a year round spring that flowed even during the dust bowl days. I reckon with water I can trade for any other need.

Independance in the US

I discovered Dawkins almost as soon as I learned there was any controversy about evolution. Since at the time I was still a church going Catholic and the Pope had no problem with Darwin, so I didn't bother exploring his views. Catching him on C-Span the other night was, to say the least, enjoyable. As far as religious conflicts go, I've come to a new conclusion: If your religion lacks a feminine Godhead, you've picked a
looser; The less organized your religion is, the better off you are! My favorite of Dawkins' statements was, (to paraphrase) "If your morals are predicated on fear of God, I fear you losing your faith."

As far as our "Christian" founders, this bit of propaganda has long been swallowed by the incurious public. I blame our public schools in large part. Most of my teachers would send me to the library rather than open up the class to discussions when I questioned the information in the textbooks. My childish curiosity, which, thankfully I still retain, has been viewed with an anathema by most people with any amount of authority. Seems to me that most people stifle their curiousness in order to keep from being singled out. Very few people can handle being "different." For all the talk of the "Independent American" pulled up by his own bootstraps, lonesome cowboy images portrayed on TV and film and portrayed by "maverick" politicians, try actually stepping outside of mainstream thinking and you'll quickly learn how much independence is valued by the herd mentality that predominates in our society.

Yesterday I learned that female chimps were making spears. Looks like whatever God there is might be getting ready to replace us.

To Know Now, Learn History

Been suffering with a slow connection, my high speed's on the blink, so I've been sitting on the sidelines, but...


Harold Pinter, a Nobel laureate, first gives you 13 or 14 paragraphs written by him in '58 outlining his take on truth in fiction and it's OK to skip it. What follows is first a synopsis of American history as it should be taught in High School:

The United States supported and in many cases engendered every right wing military dictatorship in the world after the end of the Second World War. I refer to Indonesia, Greece, Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Haiti, Turkey, the Philippines, Guatemala, El Salvador, and, of course, Chile. The horror the United States inflicted upon Chile in 1973 can never be purged and can never be forgiven.

That is how US foreign policy used to wage war. The Resident has taken it to an other level:

The United States no longer bothers about low intensity conflict. It no longer sees any point in being reticent or even devious. It puts its cards on the table without fear or favour. It quite simply doesn't give a damn about the United Nations, international law or critical dissent, which it regards as impotent and irrelevant. It also has its own bleating little lamb tagging behind it on a lead, the pathetic and supine Great Britain.

Cancer in the News

The news abounds that death from cancer's going down
So, we really aught to celebrate.
Still I'm waiting for some mention even an insinuation
that the total number's starting to accelerate.

Dime a dozen the survivors now are all becoming lifers
Hoping not to relapse.
Noting not the total numbers, how this nation slumbers
Common information full of gaps.

Other illness' are also on the rise increasing I surmise
And all coming from a similar place.
To the air we breathe, the food we eat, the very ground beneath our feet
Chemicals are added at a quickening pace.

Alzheimer's, autism are but two mental disorders whose numbers grew
And all the solutions are the same.
For every disease of the soul or the body is a chemical cure no matter how shoddy
And we're all victims playing this game.

Beating the War Drums Again

It's not news that Fox is fronting Bush's desire for more war
But now ABC and CBS and NBC are joining the push as quick as they can .
And that "liberal" rag, the New York Times tries to make us believe
The reason Iraq is whipping our ass is solely because of Iran.

It's the same old players with the same old lies
That got us to bleeding in the sands of Iraq
That are trying to scare us and fool us into
A larger debacle along the same track.

So ask yourself what or who is to gain
By believing these new lies and drumbeats for war.
Will you make a profit, will you make a dime
Or will Boeing and Bechtel and Carlyle reap more.

It's your tax dollars baby, buying bullets and bombs
And the Senators stock options getting the loot
While the white collar jobs and the making of cars
And the ultra rich all are fleeing the coop.

And the middle class, working class, all of us peons
Are paying the way if we take in their views
If we don't call them out when they lie to our face.
When they push propaganda while calling it news.

Smoke & Mirrors pt 2

The last of my rants at the Residents mumbles, lies, and promise of war, and of more war to come. Invading Afganistan, Iraq, and Somalia weren't enough. He wants to make a mess in Iran also. All the while driving the USA into bankruptcy.

From the time he entered adulthood(?) he has done one thing consistantly. The one thing he has never failed at doing is failing at whatever he is doing. Couldn't even find oil in Texas. Only time he ever made any money in business was when he did some insider trading. Seeing as how his dad was the Resident at that time, the investigation was dropped. Must be nice. Well, if you don't have a conscience that is.

So, he failed in Afganistan. Then he failed in Iraq. Then he failed in New Orleans. I'm sure his adventure in Somalia will be a failure. As for his coming failure in Iran, I'm afraid that will be his ultimate failure and the beginning of a world wide nuclear war. Started by a man who cannot utter a coherent sentence without cue cards. Do the fools who control him think they will escape the fallout?

On national TV, On "Meet the Press," I quote from the New York Times, what came from the lips of a very vile man, Steven Hadley:

Mr. Bush's National Security Adviser, Stephen J. Hadley, said in an interview on "Meet the Press" on NBC that the White House has sufficient money under its control to deploy the troops as planned, and he suggested that once the troops are in place, Congress would be reluctant to cut off funding.

"I think once they get in harm's way, Congress's tradition is to support those troops," Mr. Hadley said.

If you've been wondering how low, how reprehensible the governing office could get, look no further. This piece of slime actually said that Sunday morning on National TV.

After the soldiers are harmed they have this to look forward to:

Defense Department officials have laid off most of their case workers who help severely injured service members, sources said.

And the Nation slumbers on. I think it's time to wake our congress critters up:

Who is driving the bus?

So, I watched the ending of the playoffs, Colts vs. Patriots and the CEO and the head coach, both gave the glory and credit of the win to God. I assume they meant a Christian God of one denomination or another. Maybe even a particular denomination. After all, some of them are very jealous and intransigent in their insistence on being the only correct interpreters of the Bible. I can only wonder, were they judging the losing team to be less Christian, less devout, or merely members of the wrong congregation.

And meanwhile we have this: Lobbying for Armageddon. More than one of these self righteous sects are egging on the “End Times.” More than one. I can only imagine how scared, how empty and unfulfilled a person’s life must be, to attempt to find solace and community only to end up among a group of people whose aim is to destroy the world. Of course, they will get whisked away, just before the bad stuff happens to all those who don’t ascribe to their particular doctrine.

So here we are. Getting ready to make war on Iran. Nuclear war. The Resident has destroyed our armed forces in Iraq and the only tool left in his tool box is the nuclear option and since he has his bomb shelter, he’s not worried about the fallout. The wing nuts think he’ll bring them along (Ha. Ha.) The religious wackos are willing sacrifices to their dogmatic leaders. Our congress critters are beholden to the (supposedly non-existent) Jewish lobby (for campaign money) which is willing to bomb Iran on their own if we won’t.

On a different note: A huge event unfolded in Memphis the other weekend and not even c-span covered it. Big media is big business and even though the airways are ours, they ignore us. A bunch of videos are at that link for your educational pleasure.

Sectarian violence, Civil War?

How about a third answer. US bought, paid for, trained and directed death squads care of the C.I.A. Not much said by the MSM but they did bring up how two British commandos were "rescued" from an Iraqi police station after they were caught dressed up in arab clothing in an SUV loaded with explosives right around the time that the Golden Domed Mosque was blown up. I know I've written about this before, but I ran across this flash movie tonight that does the job of trying to open your eyes so much better than me. Treat yourself to a little nightmare.

Sunday Morning Talk Shows

The Press/News are still divided, pro Surge or Anti and filled our airways with their pompous pontifications creating noise. "Face the Nation," made listening to their rants worthwhile, for at the end good old Bob said it's time for real campaign finance reform. Publicly calling for publicly financed campaigns. Inspired me to write a poem, which I put up on You Tube.

Also did a vid on the Resident's speech last week. Sounds to me like World War 3.

Bush Speaks World Cries

We need to let Keith O. know he's not alone. His latest rant speaks Truth to Power with a rarity in media and exposes him to the Machiavellian antics of the Residences' minions. As soon as I finish my slow upload to YouTube I'll link my third rate rant to add my voice. A single voice is quickly quashed, but if the millions of us who wish we could use words like Keith simple say out loud that we agree with him, then his voice stands a better chance of remaining.

To claim the Resident is insane misses the point. For me his insanity lies along with the many in the stock market who look for short term monetary gains regardless of the long term consequences. He is willing to start WW3 for the sake of the Carlyle Group's profit margins thinking he has enough money to escape the fallout. Someone needs to give him a DVD of "On the Beach," a movie from the late fifties that accurately portrays the results of nuclear war. The effects will not be localized by wishful thinking.

Although the MSM won't talk about it, the US invaded Iran when they raided their consulate the other day. That is an act of War. An other illegal war. The Resident just can't get enough of it. As long as it is not his life on the line.
